TEAM: SPENCE, COWAN, ANKERS, MASON, CLARKE, HOWART, MOORE, RAITT, EMSON, NIVEN, EVERITT; SUBS; GREDZIAK, MASTERS, CLOUGH.

Despite the defeat at Bedlington Shildon continued to play with an attacking formation against Prudhoe Town in this League Cup match. Adam Emson went close as early as the 2nd minute with a low drive which Edwards did well to save in the Prudhoe goal. The home side looked lively upfront and striker Mills went close with a shot in the 4th minute to give Shildon an early scare. Shildon attacked in numbers, Moore went close with a decent header and when Adam Emson beat the offside trap in the 12th minute he looked odds on to score but for some great last ditch defending by Prudhoe. Emson went even closer in the 15th minute but his header rebounded off the crossbar, Shildon finally got the breakthrough in the 16th minute, Nivens cross was met by Gary Ankers who showed quick feet to curl the ball coolly past Edwards to put Shildon ahead. Shildons domination paid off again in the 24th minute with a smart finish by Adam Emson giving the keeper no chance. Prudhoe did look dangerous on the break and certainly had some quality players in there team, in the 26th minute Shildon failed to clear and the ball fell at the feet of Kent who from 25 yards scored a absolute screaming which Spence had no chance of saving. Despite this setback Shildon regained themselves and when Adam Emson found himself in space in the area he showed why he is the goal machine that other clubs fear with a quality strike to put the Railwaymen 3-1 up. The game almost flared up towards the end of the first half when full back Gary Ankers went looking for revenge on a Prudhoe player, luckily the referee opted only to book him. An entertaining first half in which both sides showed some good qualities.

HALF TIME SHILDON 3-1 PRUDHOE TOWN

Two gaols in front Shildon continued to search for more in the early stages of the 2nd half. Full back Ross Cowan had an effort blocked in the 48 minute after a good run. Wayne Gredziak almost got his first goal after resigning but his effort went just wide in the 51st minute. Emson was frustratingly getting caught off side too often as the Prudhoe back four pushed up, but on the hour mark Emson completed his hat trick with a simple finish to give Shildon a three goal advantage. Emson replacement Tyson Masters did not have to wait long to get his name on the score sheet with a looping header in the 65th minute to put Shildon 5-1 ahead. Andrew Spence was rarely troubled in the Shildon goal but did well to block a well struck effort in the 75th minute. Wayne Gredziak had a superb 25 yard shot saved by Edwards in the Prudhoe goal. Prudhoes night got even worse when Shildon sub Liam Cloughs cross was sliced into his own net by Prudhoe defender Duncan. Shildon managed to control the game till the final whistle and with it a place in the next round. A decent performance for the Railwaymen against a side that did look like the could of caused an upset in the first fifteen minutes of the match.
