SATURDAY 20TH OCTOBER SHILDON 1-1 WEST ALLOTMENT CELTIC
TEAM: LEIGHTON, HOWARTH, ANKERS, MASON,HUTTON,EVERITT, MOORE, RAITT, MASTERS, NIVEN, EMSON. SUBS: HARDMEN, GRAYSON, COWANS.
West Allotment Celtic came to Dean Street looking for revenge after the Railwaymen thrashed Celtic 5-1 earlier this season in the FA VASE. Celtic pressed straight from the start with a effort in the 3rd minute, Shildon hit back a couple of minutes later when Emson went close after a good run down the left he found himself in the area and should of played Masters in who had a simple tap in, instead he choose to shoot into the body of the Celtic keeper. A minute later it was a repeat performance by Emson who again took the hard option when a simple pass would have set up Masters. Celtic looked much better then when the two sides last met, in the 12th minute David Leighton was forced to make a good save after Celtic pressure. Shildons failure to put chances away has been a problem all season and it was the same story again today, Dion Raitt played Emson in who shot straight into the keeper in the 19th minute, the home side continued to press without managing to score and not for the first time in a football match the side who created the most found themselves a goal down at halftime, in the 34th minute Celtic took the lead after a rare attack for the away side.
HALF TIME SHILDON 0-1 WEST ALLOTMENT CELTIC
With the second half under way it was vital that Shildon did not concede again, Celtic went close in the 46th minute but the home side again looked more likely to score with Tyson Masters and Adam Emson always looking to be played into the game by the influential Stewart Niven, both had half chances in the 60th and 63rd minutes but both failed to hit the back of the net. Dion Raitt had a shot blocked by the Celtic keeper in the 68th minute and with time running out it looked as if it was going to be one of them games. Masters was having a frustrating game upfront and just couldn’t seem to get clear cut effort, in the 90th minute Niven crossed but Masters effort was easily saved. With most of the crowd on there way out of the ground Shildon were awarded a free kick in injury time, Raitt played the box into the box and when the Celtic defence failed to clear Lewis Hardmen found the ball at his feet, the young midfielder didn’t panic a played a simple ball to full back Gary Anker’s who placed the ball into the top left hand corner of the net to finally give Shildon the goal that they deserved. Moments later the final whistle went and the home side had managed to get a point from a game in which it didn’t look like they would score in. A decent point, but against a side at the bottom end of the league it was a game in which Shildon were capable of winning and in future must win if they wish to climb the league.
