SATURDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER SHILDON 1-2 DURHAM CITY ANL1
Shildon returned to league action still looking for their first league win against a Durham City team currently top of the League. Without Raitt,, Hutton and Jury it was the home side who got off to a perfect start. Stuart Nivens floated free kick was headed in by Daniel Moore with the City keeper in no mans land.. Shildon continued to press and pass the ball with Niven being instrumental in almost every attack, the home side were denied a spot kick in the 13th minute when the Ref failed to spot a handball. Durham played with plenty of pace and fancy flicks without really getting anywhere. Shildon should have put the game out of sight in the first 30 minutes, Niven went close after 22 minutes, some great football lead to Emson blazing over the bar in the 23rd minute and Tyson Masters went close after 26 minutes but stumbled at the crucial moment and shot well wide. The signs were positive as all round Shildon seemed to be holding their own and limited Durham to just one decent effort in the 36th minute that went wide. All in all a good first half with the home side going in one goal to the good.
HALF TIME SHILDON 1-0 DURHAM CITY
Not for the first time this season Shildon let their lead slip with a sloppy goal when they failed to clear their lines and gave Durham an undeserved goal much against the run of play. Tyson Masters almost put Shildon back in the lead straight from the restart but after doing the hard bit never really got anything behind his shot. The pivotal moment in the game came in the 54th minute, Masters found him with only the keeper to beat but again pulled his shot wide, a chance that Shildon would later regret . Daniel Moore tried a long range effort in the 57th minute that without troubling the City keeper. Disaster struck in the 65th minute when Durham took the lead, sub Stewart Morris found himself free at the back post for a simple tap in to pile on the misery for the home supporters who could not believe they were losing. Shildon pressed for an equaliser but when Masters 81st minute effort went just wide they knew it was not going to be their day. Just two league points from five matches is a concern, but with the manner in which Shildon approach games it’s surely only a matter of time before results start going their way, isn’t it?
