SHILDON A.F.CMATCH REPORT

SATURDAY 18TH AUGUST F.A CUP

BOTTESFORD TOWN 1-2 SHILDON

After the disappointment of two straight league defeats Shildon travelled to Bottesford town hoping that the F.A Cup would prove more fruitful than the league. A change of formation saw Shildon playing with five in midfield with Adam Emson as the lone striker. Again it was the opposing side who had the first chance of the match, Andrew Spence in the Shildon goal struggling to cope with a free kick, an early let off. Lone striker Adam Emson had the first chance for Shildon un the 7th minute but Bottesford’s keeper blocked well. John Jury came to the rescue for the away side in the 10th minute when he was forced to clear off his own goal line, it seemed as if the game was going to go the same way as recent matches but Shildon began to compose themselves, Dion Raitt and Karl Everitt started to stamp their authority in the midfield areas and it was Raitt who played a good ball to Emson in the 18th minute but his shot sailed over the bar. After a good period of possession Shildon finally broke the deadlock, Everitt pulled out wide and knocked a great ball into the box which Adam Emson headed confidently into the back of the net. Bottesford tried in vain to get into the game but found hard to get past the impressive Chris Mason who filled in at Centre half for John Hutton. The ever busy Dion Raitt found himself one on one with the keeper but his shot was somehow blocked, from the resulting corner captain Daniel Moore scored an absolute peach of a goal with a great header which would have graced any premier league game. Shildon could of gone in three or four up at half time but couldn’t take any further chances despite some much better passing .

HALF TIME SHILDON 2-0 BOTTESFORD TOWN

Bottesford came out kicking down the slope and had the first attack but failed to trouble Spence in the Shildon goal, it was a scrappy start for Shildon who never seemed to have anyone in wide positions to take advantage of the gaping spaces in front of them. Adam Emson found in hard to get in the game as a lone striker but did manage an effort in the 6th minute but not for the first time lacked any real conviction. Bottesford grew in confidence creating a few half chances as Shildon were hemmed back in there own half. The pressure finally paid off for Bottesford in the 82nd minute when sub Barras headed home. Shildon huffed and puffed for the final few minutes of the match and the final whistle came as a relief to the travelling supporters. Overall Shildon deserved the win for the first half performance alone but will have to move up a gear if they want to progress in this competition.
