WEDNESDAY 8TH NOVEMBER SHILDON 2-1 BISHOP AUCKLAND

Team
Spence, Howarth, Ankers, Mason, Ptak, Niven, Everitt, Clark, Masters, Gredziak, Raitt
Subs - Bullyment, Cowan, Emson

Shildon started this match with local rivals Bishop Auckland hoping to build on their good form from the last 2 games.  Both sides tested each other in the early exchanges but neither dominated.  Shildon were on top in the 13th minute when returning striker - Gredziak put them ahead from his backward header from Raitt's pinpoint cross. Shildon were lifted by this and had a couple more chances straight after the goal which came to nothing.  Bishop had a rare shot in the 20th minute but this was way to weak to trouble Spence.  Ankers came close in the 37th minute when Howarth played a good ball into the area and the Bishop keeper arrived in time to take the ball from Ankers who was closing in on goal.  The Railwaymen went in at half time 1-0 ahead.

Half time -   Bishop Auckland 0 - 1 Shildon

Bishop didn't threaten Shildon much and occasionally tried long range shots which never really came close.  Masters extended Shildon's lead in the 55th minute when the Bishop keeper failed to catch the ball. The keeper palmed Mason's free kick straight into the path of Masters who made no mistakes and coolly slotted the ball home to give Shildon a 2-0 lead.  Bishops best chance of the game came in the 61st minute when a powerful shot forced a diving save from Spence.  In the 70th minute Spence did well to keep Bishop out again when he tipped the ball over the bar. Bishop put Shildon under a bit of pressure towards the end of the game and this pressure paid off 5 minutes from time when they were awarded a free kick outside of the Shildon area.  The ball went straight through the Shildon wall and beat Spence to make the score 2-1 to Shildon.  Bishop didn't have time to get anything from the game and Shildon managed to hold on to chalk up a win against their tenants.  Overall it was a pretty uninspiring performance from both teams but Shildon must be pleased that they came away with the 3 points which helps them climb a few places up the table.
